My woodcarvers are fashioned from O1 steel, brass and cocobolo. The blades are of full tang construction that runs the entire length of the knife. The blade can never “twist out” or loosen from the handle.
I heat treat the steel using a special process that gives the blade a long lasting edge, and the toughness to withstand heavier cuts in the wood. The edge can be maintained through many projects by stropping alone as opposed to frequent honing. Standard blades are flat ground, polished and come sharp, ready to use right out of the box.
The standard blade bevels on these knives are designed to work best in soft woods such as basswood and butternut. If you wish to carve a harder wood, advance notice will allow me to grind the blade with a less acute angle. This will help withstand the blade stress encountered when carving harder woods.
The blade shapes shown are my standard models, but any custom shapes are welcomed and will be made to order. All standard shapes are priced at $55.00. Models without the brass bolsters are $45.00, and custom work will add an additional $10 to the price.
